Credit by Exam
Registration for end of Spring CBE will be open
April 22 - May 6, 2026
- End of Spring CBE is offered for most (not all) MATH courses offered on the Spring 2026 Timetable of Classes.
- The registration deadline is 3:00pm on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
The non-refundable exam fee is $10 per credit hour. The fee will be charged to the student’s account whether they take the exam or not. Therefore, students should not register for CBE if they may not be able to take the exam. Students will need to pay the fee pay the fee through the Bursar’s office once it has been applied to their account.
Once registered, further instructions regarding the exam dates, times, and locations will be emailed to the student’s VT email account no later than 5pm on Thursday, May 7, 2026. However, students can review final exam times for the courses on the timetable. The timetable should be reviewed for time conflicts before a student registers for CBE; the exam fee is non-refundable for any reason.
Your exam will be graded by the instructor (passing requires 70% or the class average). You should receive your results within 48-72 hours of taking the exam.
You may contact Sadie Powell in 460 McBryde if you have not received your results within 1 week from taking the exam.
To take these exams, you MUST bring
- Your student ID as you will not be able to take the exam without it.
- A print-out of the registration confirmation email that you received from the department.

IMPORTANT:
- Only currently enrolled undergraduate students are eligible for special examinations.
- Students cannot receive credit by exam if they have previously audited or enrolled in the course at Virginia Tech.
- Students cannot receive credit by exam for MATH 1524 or MATH 2534.
- University rules prohibit more than one try at Credit-By-Exam for each course, and a student’s total credit by exam cannot exceed 12 credit hours. Violation of this policy will be reported to the honor system.
- Credit-By-Exam fees are non-refundable.
