Problem formulation

For a slender filament subject to axial stretching the equations of motion can be approximated by a one-dimensional model. Although such a model cannot be used to describe the complex deformation throughout the device it is expected to give a reasonable approximation in the central portion of the filament. We shall use the model given in Appendix 1. For further details see [6].
