Large eddy simulation of gravity currents: a finite element
analysis
Brian Baitis
This paper is a compilation of my undergraduate research
for the 2004 & 2005 school year. The motivation behind this project
was to first understand what gravity currents were and why we study
them. We did this by running a numerical model and tested several
parameters to see their effects on the solution of the gravity
currents. Then, I wrote a finite element code for the less complex
convection-diffusion problem to help my understanding of the Navier
Stokes Equations. Since convection diffusion is a linear model of
the Navier-Stokes equations, the two can be related.
