Gwen Lloyd, Professor in the Department of Mathematics, teaches mathematics courses for preservice elementary and secondary teachers and advises mathematics education doctoral students. In 2003, she received Virginia Tech’s Alumni Award for Teaching Excellence.
In 2008, Gwen completed her term as Chair of the Editorial Panel of the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education (JRME). Gwen is a Board Member of SIG/RME, member of AMTE’s Research Task Force, Research Associate of the NSF-funded Center for the Study of Mathematics Curriculum, and co-leader of the Mathematics Education Mentoring Group of the EDGE program. She also serves on the Executive Committee of Virginia Tech's Academy of Teaching Excellence and the College of Science P&T committee.
Gwen’s research focuses on teacher learning, particularly as it relates to teachers’ interactions with mathematics curriculum materials. She is currently involved with an NSF-funded study of preservice secondary teachers' use of K-12 textbooks and curriculum materials in undergraduate mathematics courses. Her recent work has been published in JRME, the Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education, and Educational Studies in Mathematics. Gwen also has two books forthcoming: a co-authored NCTM publication about functions for high school teachers and a co-edited research volume about teachers' use of mathematics curriculum materials.
