Title: Computer-based testing in an integral calculus class (1206)
Abstract
This is a report on a traditionally-taught class with computer tests
that could be taken multiple times, up to 10 in some cases. There were
significant changes in the way students learned the material. Grades
improved dramatically (84 class average, 40% A , no failures), but
performance on the common final was slightly below other sections.
Outcomes are analyzed to find ways to exploit the strengths and
minimize the weaknesses of this mode of teaching. This approach may
provide a way to increase class size without increasing teacher burdens
and actually improve learning.
