Text: University Calculus,, by J. Hass, M. F. Weir, and G. B. Thomas.
Prerequisites and Co-requisites:
Students should have a good command of the material from Math 1206, Math 1224.
Syllabus and Objectives:
Please see the Department
Assignment Sheet for the syllabus.
Learn the
basics of multivariable calculus and infinite series so that you can use it in
engineering applications
Roll: It is departmental rules that roll will be taken every day.
Exams:
There will be three in-class tests and a comprehensive common final exam. No
make-up exams will be given for the in-class tests. If you have a valid
reason for missing a test, your grade on the final will be substituted for that
of the missed test. The common final exam means that a portion of the final is
the same for all sections of 2224, and you are not allowed to change the time
of the final. The first hour of the final will be the common part of the final
and will be multiple choice, and the second hour will be made up by me and will
be conventional (i.e. not multiple choice). Two parts of the final will be
given equal weight. The common part will be curved in relation to how all the
other classes do on the common final. There will be no other curving.
Homework Policy:
You are required to do ALL problems in the Department Assignment Sheet.
Homework will be assigned and collected. You may (are even encouraged) to
discuss the assignments between yourselves: however copying is, of course,
forbidden. There are some 10-minute quizzes given in class. Most of problems in
quizzes and homework will come from the assignment sheet. No later homework
acceptable.
Assessment:
The grades will be averaged. The final grade will be no lower than the
following scale (a
plus or a minus may be assigned).
90 - 100 A
80 -
89 B
